When the small feline made its way to his legs, all he could do was stand still. He was programmed not to hurt any living thing that wasn’t hurting him or his master. So, he stood still, looking down at the kitten. He didn’t want to accidentally step on it or crush it. The android automatically smiled. Even in his damaged state, he couldn’t help but feel fond of cats. They didn’t care if you were human or machine or fat or thin or anything. They loved those that loved them. Slowly, he carefully bent to rub the cat’s back. Tending to things made him feel a bit less broken.

The robot didn’t have much by the way of a sense of privacy anymore. His mind was so far out of whack. Especially not for a kitten. His basic protective programming kicked in and of course, he followed. He wanted to make sure his new charge didn’t get into any danger.

The kitten glanced back to see that the android was following after him. Oh no. If he followed, he would see! The small creature took off at full speed, weaving in through doors and crawling under things before he finally found a closet where the door was cracked open. He wiggled his little body through the crack and curled up in a pile of old clothes inside as he waited for the last bit of sunlight to slip behind the horizon. He kept peeking out the door to make sure that the android wasn’t there before he finally felt that familiar tingle in his legs.

Slowly, the little kitten started to grow and change shape. He lost his fur as his form started to take a shape more similar to a human’s. Before long, instead of a small kitten, he was a small boy. The only thing left that might indicate he was that same little kitten was the two cat ears on his head, the tail sprouting from his back, and the fact his hair was the same color as the ashen fur, and those brilliant blue eyes. He huddled into the corner and grabbed one of the old shirts, using it to cover up his naked form.
