Falling asleep on the subway was easy. The soft hum of the rails, the light music playing over the speakers, it was enough to lull anyone off into a slumber. However, once you did, no one really had the decency to wake you up. It was late in the evening, and the sun had already set behind the skyline. Not many people rode the rails at this hour. The car was mostly empty save for an older lady, a man in a business suit, and a small ashen-haired boy. Also, there was the man who’d fallen asleep in the corner. As they approached the last stop, those sapphire eyes scanned the faces of the other passengers. Was anyone planning on waking the man up? If they didn’t, he might be doomed to sleep in the downtown subway station. It was one notorious for being dangerous with gang activity, and it was the stop after next.
As the train approached the next stop, the boy looked a little worried. The business man and the lady stood up to get ready to leave. Taking it upon himself to do something, he stood up as well, but made his way over to the sleeping man and gently shook his shoulder.
“Excuse me, you’ve fallen asleep and missed the past 8 stops… We’re almost to the downtown station. I just thought you might want to be woken up before then…”
