Alois was only kind of listening to what Ciel had to say. He caught the part that he was expected to show up, and that was where his attention was stolen away by the delightful sound of the classical music spilling from the cracks of the doors leading to the ballroom, his smile widening by purely the sound of the music alone.

And soon, the Trancy boy was pushing the doors to the big hall open, his bright blue eyes lighting up as he saw everyone who was there. In that moment Alois was sure that the Trancy Estate had the best balls out of all of the noblemen out there. Ciel could tell the other was hardly listening. He rolled his eyes slightly and turned his attention to the doors as they opened. Inside, nobles were making merry. They were talking and laughing and dancing. Ciel already wanted to go home. A few people noticed he and Alois enter the room and commented to eachother about how the young Earl Phantomhive was there.
“Absolutely.” Ciel answered, though it sounded flat and insincere. Afterwards, however, he plastered on his best smile and walked into the room. Immediately, a few nobles approached him to talk. He chatted back to them easily, with the finesse of someone who regularly attended social gatherings. At that point, he seemed to be ignoring the Trancy boy and going about his business of promoting the Phantomhive name.
